About Margate, Kent
The seaside resort of Margate has been a favourite with Londoners for decades, drawing many to it golden sands. A children's favourite, bring your buckets and spades, eat candy floss, ride donkeys and build sandcastles.
Although the resort declined in the 80s and 90s, Margate is now enjoying a renaissance. The old town has been rejuvenated with bars and restaurants; a jazz festival takes place in July and the Turner Contemporary gallery is scheduled to open in 2010.
Margate enjoys colourful nightlife providing theatre shows, nightclubbing, casinos, cinemas, bowling alleys and pubs (some with live music).
With high-speed rail links promised for 2009 Margate is now even more accessible.
